When my first kid was about 3 she'd wake up screaming every night and she wouldn't tell you what's wrong even though she was capable of talking. She would just shriek and cry and be completely inconsolable. Later on she had leg cramps but also there were train tracks across the valley from our house and they were active all hours of the night. I don't really remember train sounds being a problem much but the leg cramps may have been the cause of the first few episodes.
